Rules for conducting scientific activities in the Tatra National Park

  • All scientific activities in the Tatra National Park require the written permission of the Park Director.
  • Permits are issued by the TPN Research and Monitoring Office upon written request of the scientific institute. The request should specify:

-                   the full subject of the research

-                   the methodological assumptions of the research (for new subjects)

-                   personal data of the author and the persons authorised to supervise the work of research teams in the Park

-                   dates of the fieldwork

-                   area of the fieldwork

-                   anticipated type and quantity of material to be obtained within the Park for research and a justification of the need to obtain it.

  • Permits may be granted to an individual holding an academic degree. The decision to grant a permit is taken by the Park Director on an individual basis.
  • Requests for permits to conduct research should be sent to the Park Director at least two weeks in advance. For new research subjects, and if exceptional circumstances occur, the requests may have to be referred to the Park Council or an independent expert selected by the Park for consultation. In such a case the period for decision on whether to grant permission may be exceeded to three months.
  • Research work may only start once the requesting party has obtained the permission in the form of a standard sheet specifying the terms and conditions for carrying out the research. The permit must be presented upon each request of the Park services during the research.
  • Failure to comply with the terms and conditions of the permit renders it void and may incur a refusal to grant further permits to the same person.
  • Persons responsible for the research who obtained research permits in a given calendar year shall submit to the TPN Director, by the end of December of that year, written information on the progress of the research, with author’s offprints of publications relating to the subject.
  • Authors of masters’ and doctoral dissertations shall, upon completion of their work, present the TPN library, free of charge, with one copy of the dissertation, or an author’s offprint thereof, if it has been published.
